IBIT Carries Bitcoin ETFs; ETHA Hemorrhages $93M
BlackRock's IBIT drove every dollar of Monday's Bitcoin ETF inflows while ETHA shed $93M Tuesday — crypto ETF bifurcation is accelerating fast.
Key Points
- BlackRock's IBIT accounted for 100% of Monday's $110.3M in Bitcoin ETF inflows — every other U.S. spot BTC fund recorded exactly zero net flows that session.
- Ethereum ETFs posted $60.22M in net outflows Tuesday, with ETHA alone responsible for $93.28M in redemptions — more than wiping out every dollar of inflow across the other 10 funds.
- October Ethereum ETF net outflows have now reached $1.32B through Tuesday, putting the month on pace for the largest net withdrawals since November 2025 — watch ETHA's daily flow print as the Fed decision lands this afternoon.
BlackRock's IBIT pulled in $110.3M on Monday — and not a single dollar came from anywhere else. Every other U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF, including Fidelity's FBTC and Grayscale's GBTC, recorded zero net flows that session. On Tuesday, IBIT followed with another $151.46M, with Fidelity's FBTC adding $24.54M to bring the two-day total to $286M. The Bitcoin ETF complex is recovering from last week's $774M two-day rout, but the recovery is a one-fund story — and the Ethereum side of the ledger is deteriorating faster than the Bitcoin side is healing.
One Fund, One Market
The IBIT dominance narrative is no longer a trend — it's a structural fact. Cumulative net inflows to IBIT have now reached $66.24B, against a total Bitcoin ETF cumulative net inflow figure of $57.47B across all products. The arithmetic is intentionally jarring: IBIT's standalone inflow figure exceeds the industry aggregate because other funds, led by Grayscale's GBTC, have been in persistent net outflow since the spot ETF era launched. GBTC's chronic redemption bleed has dragged the headline number down even as IBIT prints billions.
The broader Bitcoin ETF complex now holds $103.94B in total net assets — representing 6.40% of Bitcoin's entire market cap. That's a meaningful penetration figure for an asset class that didn't have a regulated U.S. spot vehicle before 2024. Daily trading volume hit $1.58B on Tuesday, confirming that liquidity is deep, even if flows are increasingly concentrated. October net outflows for the full Bitcoin ETF complex have narrowed to just $26M, essentially recovered after the Thursday-Friday flush, and year-to-date net inflows stand at approximately $850M. The two-day snapback suggests last week's withdrawals were tactical — not structural — repositioning ahead of the Fed.
What Monday's zero-flow reading from every non-IBIT fund actually signals is adviser and institutional channel consolidation. When allocators move into Bitcoin ETFs, they are increasingly defaulting to IBIT the way they default to SPY for S&P 500 exposure — not because the underlying product is meaningfully different, but because liquidity, brand, and operational familiarity create switching costs. BlackRock's IBIT has now absorbed cumulative inflows of $66.24B, a figure that puts it among the fastest-accumulating ETFs in Wall Street history by any measure.
Ethereum's Institutional Rejection
The Ethereum side of the ledger is telling a fundamentally different story. Tuesday's $60.22M in net ETH ETF outflows were driven almost entirely by BlackRock's own ETHA, which alone shed $93.28M — more than erasing the combined inflows of $28.58M into Fidelity's FETH and $4.48M into Grayscale's ETH. Only two of the 11 tracked U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs attracted any inflows at all. The other nine were flat or negative.
October has now produced $1.32B in Ethereum ETF net outflows through Tuesday. To contextualize that number: November 2025 was the worst month on record for Ethereum ETF net withdrawals, and October 2026 is currently tracking to eclipse it with three trading days still remaining. This is not a rotation story — it is a rejection story. Institutional buyers who entered Ethereum ETFs earlier in the year are pulling capital in size, and the replacement buyers have not materialized. The thesis that Ethereum's staking yield narrative, post-Merge dynamics, and smart contract dominance would attract the same adviser-channel flows as Bitcoin has, empirically, not played out in the ETF wrapper.
ETHA's Tuesday session is particularly striking given its trading volume. BlackRock's ETHA led all Ethereum ETFs with $266.67M in daily trading volume — followed by Grayscale's ETH at $51.39M and Fidelity's FETH at $36.91M — against $93.28M in net outflows. High volume paired with heavy net selling is a distribution signal, not accumulation. Traders were actively using ETHA's liquidity to exit, not enter.
Altcoin ETFs compounded the picture. Solana ETFs posted their largest single-day October outflow at $19.16M. XRP ETFs recorded their fourth net outflow of the month, losing $3.61M on Tuesday. The pattern across non-Bitcoin crypto ETFs is consistent: flows are negative, the selling is not isolated to one fund or one session, and the institutional demand that was supposed to validate the altcoin ETF thesis in 2026 has not arrived at scale.
What Traders Watch Next
The Fed decision today is the immediate catalyst. Markets are pricing a 90.6% probability of no rate change, which should be a non-event for crypto ETF flows on its own. But Jerome Powell's press conference language around the pace and timing of future cuts matters for Bitcoin specifically — any hawkish pivot in tone has historically triggered short-term BTC selling that shows up in next-day ETF outflow data. Watch for the IBIT and ETHA daily flow prints tomorrow morning as the cleanest real-time read on how institutional allocators interpreted today's decision.
The structural question for Ethereum ETFs is whether the October outflow pace decelerates or accelerates into month-end. Portfolio rebalancing on October 31 could cut either way: managers who are underwater on Ethereum exposure into quarter-end may accelerate redemptions to clean up books, or the selling may have already been front-run in the $1.32B that's already left. The line to watch on ETHA is whether daily outflows breach $100M in a single session before month-end — that would signal institutional redemption pressure is intensifying, not plateauing. Bitcoin ETF year-to-date inflows at $850M leave the complex within striking distance of a positive 2026 if IBIT sustains its current pace through November.
